Who are We?
Established in the fall of 1999, the CITM is made up of industry and government representatives, as well as local administrators and representatives from socio-economic circles. It is headed by the Conférence régionale des élus of Montréal (formerly the regional development council). After the completion of the 2001-2006 strategic action plan for goods transportation, its main purpose is now to carry out the 2008-2011 action plan.

The CITM traces its origins to the Forum on Goods Transportation. Held in June 1998 under the sponsorship of the CRDÎM (Conseil régional de développement de l’île de Montréal)—the regional development council for the Island of Montréal—this event proved to be an outstanding success. On the strength of the attendance of over 200 industry representatives, the Forum provided an opportunity to identify an initial plan of action that was to become the basis for the CITM's work. In addition to the subjects selected, attendees also expressed the need to pool resources and work together to better identify the industry's development prospects.
On November 20, 2000, the 2001-2006 plan of action for goods transportation was adopted. Convinced that the success of carrying out the strategic plan lay in setting up an implementation and follow-up process, the five regional development councils of Greater Montréal agreed to pursue their involvement. Representatives of the Québec and Federal governments, major carriers and the socio-economic community also lent their support and agreed to actively take part in implementing the strategic action plan.
